How JK Lakshmi Cement is better than other cements? |
| A : |
JK Lakshmi Cement is manufactured from superior quality Lime-stone which is available in abundance in our mines. The main advantage of JK Lakshmi cement is consistency in terms of strength, setting time, colour, fineness and weight.
Some other advantages of JK Lakshmi Cement are:
1. It's a homogeneous product containing no colour pigment.
2. You don't need to change concrete mix design every now and then.
3. It provides attractive, durable and consistent light-grey coloured concrete, renders and mortars.
4. It has early setting characteristics for cost efficient demoulding /deshuttering.
5. It's chloride content is low.

| Q : |
What is 'setting time' of Cement? What are the factors that affect the setting time? |
| A : |
When water is mixed with cement, the paste formed remains plastic for a short time. During this period it is possible to mould it as per requirement. As the reaction between water and cement continues, the paste looses its plasticity and we cannot mould it. This early period in the hardening of Cement is referred as "Setting of Cement". Generally setting time of cement depends upon various factors, such as, the type of cement, presence of certain types of salts, chemicals in sand, percentage of water, availability of ambient temperature etc.
In winters, the setting time of cement is longer due to low temperature.

| Q : |
What is heat of hydration? What is its importance? |
| A : |
Whenever we mix water with cement, chemical reaction starts and liberates a considerable quantity of heat. This liberation of heat is called the Heat of Hydration. In case of mass concrete works like Dams, liberated heat cannot dissipate outside and it may lead to cracks in concrete. To overcome this difficulty, it is essential to use low-heat blended cement and follow it up with continuous curing with water.

| Q : |
Why Gypsum is added while manufacturing of cement? |
| A : |
Gypsum alters the setting time of cement. If gypsum is not added, cement will set immediately and it cannot be used for making concrete/mortar. Hence to make it workable, gypsum is added.

| Q : |
What is Soundness of Cement and state its significance? |
| A : |
It is very important that after the setting time, cement should not undergo any appreciable change in volume. If it does, it is called unsound cement. This will cause serious difficulty for the durability of structure when such cement is used. The unsoundness of cement is due to the presence of excess lime, high proportion of magnesia content or calcium sulphate content. It is therefore advisable to purchase cement from reputed manufacturers like JK Lakshmi where the manufacturing is done using state-of-the-art equipment and stringent quality control measures.

| Q : |
What is meant by Curing of Concrete ? |
| A : |
Curing is the name given to the procedures for promoting the hydration of cement. Curing is done to make the concrete mixture stronger and more durable.
It is generally done for a minimum of seven days or until concrete reaches 70% of its specified strength. Commencement of curing depends on ambient temperature. Higher the ambient temperature, commence curing earlier.

| Q : |
What is meant by Durability of Concrete ? |
| A : |
The concrete structure should continue to perform at it's required strength and service ability during the specified or expected service life. The durability of concrete refers to the extent to which the material is capable of resisting deterioration caused by exposure to service conditions. Generally speaking, concrete is strong and fireproof. Additionally, ordinary structural concrete that is to be exposed to the elements must be watertight and weather-resistant. Concrete that is subject to wear, such as floor slabs and pavements, must be capable of resisting abrasion.

| Q : |
What are the advantages of blended cement? Does durability increase by using blended cement? |
| A : |
Blended Cement is a superior variant of cement that provides features such as super strength and higher fineness. It is stronger and durable than conventional cement and is recommended for structures such as dams and heavy machinery foundations, though it is also commonly used for regular residential and commercial projects. JK Lakshmi Cement 53 (blended) is good example of blended cement and it has a minimum guaranteed strength of 53 MPa.
